Quick Hot Chocolate

Raw cocoa powder is high in iron, potassium, magnesium and fibre. It is also rich in antioxidant flavonoids called flavanols which may increase brain function. Flavanols are normally stripped away when chocolate is made and anyway most good effects would be negated by the use of sugar in the processing however raw cocoa keeps more flavanols. Cinnamon helps to slow down the insulin spike caused by sweet foods.

Ingredients - Serves 1

One mug of almond milk

2 heaped teaspoons of raw cocoa powder

Few drops of vanilla extract

Cinnamon powder

 

Heat one mug of almond milk in the microwave or in a small saucepan over a medium heat. Stir in the raw cocoa powder with a few drops of vanilla extract to suggest sweetness. Dust with cinnamon powder and serve.
